Kaman – Assistant Manager, IT Project Management

“The Club is far larger than other organisations where I’ve worked. I enjoy its size and complexity. It makes the technology and the people elements of my role more interesting.

I work on the enhancements for over 100 systems, actively collaborating with up to 200 people. There are people of every age, background and specialisation here. This diversity of platforms and people means I’m continually learning from new experiences. Plus, I’m always trying to develop a better understanding of other people’s perspectives.

The Club has been very good at supporting my continuous development. Broadly speaking, it provides two forms of training. As well as business and product-focused training, I’ve benefited from development focused on specific skills such as problem-solving and negotiation, all of which is on top of being in the IT Talent Advocates Programme. Advocates build the profile of the function, a role that’s taken me to the racecourses, clubhouses and OCBBs, giving me learning opportunities out of my job scope.

One of the things that I’ve found most surprising about the working culture at the Club has been its breadth. I knew I’d enjoy the sporting and entertainment activities, as my whole family are passionate about horse racing and football. But there are also many unexpected employee wellness benefits. As well as Beer Fridays and Fruit Mondays, I’m never far from a rice cake here!

Last, but certainly not least, there’s a huge sense of pride about working at the Club. It’s impossible to miss all the facilities and activities funded by the Club’s Charities Trust for the community. I’m proud to make a difference. Even though my impact isn’t direct, I know my work ensuring the smooth running of our IT systems further its influence on the community.”
