“Connecting with customers is a lovely feeling. It’s great to be recognised and remembered. I get real satisfaction from adding to people’s enjoyment of sport and dining out, and making their day run smoothly.
I had a lot to learn when I joined the Club. I hadn’t worked with wagering products before. But the training here is excellent and I was soon up to speed. Part of my role involves securing bookings for Wins Café. It’s not always easy, but the service training really helped and it’s great when people return again and again.
As well as learning about betting products and customers’ needs, I feel my problem-solving skills have really come on. I don’t get daunted by new challenges anymore. I’ve learnt to adjust my attitude to be more positive when facing new problems – and new opportunities.
A positive attitude about the future is definitely helpful here. The Club’s so big, a new opportunity is never far away. And with a clear career ladder to climb, it’s easy to plan your progress and focus your ambitions.
One of the things I like best about the Club is the support it provides. I feel very well cared for after becoming a parent. My manager has given me more flexibility on the roster. Now I can work my shifts around my childcare commitments.
Importantly, this focus on support extends outwards, too. The Club’s commitment to the community is impossible to miss. I took part in CARE@hkjc volunteering opportunities almost as soon as I joined, knitting scarves with colleagues for people in need. Plus, I take part in the community healthcare and lifestyle-related events that my team runs every month. Giving back is very much part of the culture here.”
