The Division

The Racing Division is committed to managing all aspects of Hong Kong’s world-class sport of horse racing, covering the full value chain — from importation and training to racedays, equestrian, welfare, integrity, and international engagement.  With Conghua Racecourse and Greater Bay Area expansion, we’re shaping racing into a dynamic sporting, social, and entertainment experience.

 

The Job

You Will:
 

The job holder is responsible for delivering highquality veterinary clinical services to racehorses, retired racehorses, club-owned horses, and equestrian horses across the Conghua Racecourse (CRC), Conghua Equine Transfer Station (CETS), and occasionally Hong Kong racecourse facilities. The position ensures optimal horse health, performance readiness, welfare, and regulatory compliance while supporting racing integrity, contributing to clinical excellence, and fostering continuous improvement within the veterinary department.
 
 
Key Responsibilities: 
 
 
1. Clinical Veterinary Services

  • Provide comprehensive veterinary care, examinations, diagnostics, treatments, and followups for horses at CRC, CETS, and HK racecourse venues.
  • Implement HKJC health policies and maintain high clinical standards.
  • Collaborate with trainers, stable staff, and fellow veterinarians, offering clear communication and professional advice.
  • Support emergency cases, trackwork coverage, raceday veterinary duties, and horse transport incidents.
  • Manage horse retirement assessments and contribute to the Club’s aftercare and rehabilitation programmes.
  • Maintain accurate, timely clinical records in Veterinary Management Information System.
  • Participate in disease surveillance, biosecurity management, and infectious disease response.
     

2. Racing Integrity & Compliance

  • Adhere strictly to protocols related to medication handling, prohibited substances, and drug withdrawal guidelines.
  • Report all relevant clinical findings impacting horse safety or racing integrity.
  • Ensure compliance with PRC and HK regulations as well as HKJC and DVCS security procedures.
  • Follow SOPs diligently and safeguard departmental property.
     

3. Clinical Standards & Continuous Improvement

  • Stay current with equine veterinary science and contribute to improving clinical practices.
  • Mentor junior vets, VCTs, and clinical support staff.
  • Manage assigned projects and participate in continuous education.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on case reviews and second opinions.
  • Maintain proficiency in diagnostic and treatment equipment.
  • Identify and address factors affecting horse health and welfare.
     

4. Safety & Risk Management

  • Follow all safety protocols and ensure safe working environments for support staff.
  • Promote proactive risk mitigation practices during daily operations.

 

5. Race Day Injury & Incident Management

  • Provide rapid, professional first aid during track incidents.
  • Collect postrace blood samples for prohibited substance testing.
  • Conduct postmortem examinations to support injury prevention strategies.
     

6. Professional Advisory Services

  • Advise owners and trainers on treatments, insurance, pre-import evaluations, and retirement decisions.
  • Perform insurance examinations and assist with documentation reviews.
     

7. Operational & Financial Compliance

  • Ensure accurate use and recording of consumables in VMIS to support departmental financial performance.
     

8. Additional Duties

  • Undertake special projects or assignments as directed, including possible secondment to Hong Kong.

About You

You Should Have:

 

  • A primary degree in Veterinary Science from a university that is recognised by the Board of Veterinary Surgeons of Hong Kong together with relevant post graduate qualifications and proven experience in Thoroughbred racehorse veterinary practice,
  • A minimum of 3 years in equine clinical practice relevant to race track practice.
  • Passionate about working with equine athletes in equine racetrack practice.
  • Competent in the examination of racehorses, the diagnosis and management of all common injuries and illnesses affecting racehorses and in performing all routine clinical procedures on Thoroughbred racehorses.
  • Fluency in both written and spoken English.
  • Fluency in Mandarin is an advantage but not essential.
  • Fluency in Cantonese is an advantage but not essential.
