CRC Manager, Equestrian Displays
Responsibilities:
1. Stable Assistant Management
- Be fully responsible for the overall welfare of horses in the Equestrian Display Stable and manage a team of Stable Assistants and Riding Grooms.
- Ensure team members provide the highest standards of horse care and welfare at all times.
- Control fodder, hay and bedding stock allocations; maintain accurate and timely records for billing and finance purposes.
- Facilitate arrangements for ordering additional supplies and arranging transport, spelling, veterinary support, etc.
- Formulate and publish the monthly roster.
- Assign job duties, maximize staff productivity and motivation.
2. Safe Working Practices
- Instill and promote safe working practices amongst team members and unit activities.
- Encourage and develop high standards and expectations across stable operations.
- Adhere to and ensure team members follow the Club’s and the Equestrian Affairs Departmental Policies and Procedures, including safety practices and biosecurity regulations.
- Ensure timely reporting and follow up of all accidents and near misses.
- Attend the regular departmental safety meetings.
3.Human Resources
- In conjunction with the relevant administrator, maintain up-to-date and accurate records of staff attendance and leave management according to the Club’s Leave Management Policy and PRC Labour Laws.
- Handle return-to-work interviews.
- Provide regular feedback and support to team members including through the Club’s Performance Management System.
- In collaboration with HR, assist in the recruitment of new staff for the department.
4. Veterinary Care
- Work collaboratively with Veterinarians and Physiotherapists to manage the care and rehabilitation of all horses.
- Apply and administer medicines and maintain medication dosage and stock records for billing and finance.
- Monitor equine progress and feedback to the Veterinarians and the Equestrian Affairs Management regularly.
- Ensure team members work effectively to manage the care of all horses, by following instructions accurately and efficiently.
5. Facilities
- Maintain the stables, equipment and facilities in good working condition.
- Ensure the Equestrian Display Stable is always presentable, with good ventilation, clear drainage and tidy store rooms.
- Ensure all equipment, hardware and software is in full working order and maintained to the highest standards at all times. Work closely with Facilities Management team to rectify any property issues promptly and effectively to reduce risks of operations.
- In collaboration with the Tracks Department, ensure the riding facilities are maintained and cared for and report any issues to the Tracks Department.
6. Training Programmes
- Formulate effective fitness and training programmes for the Shetland Ponies.
- Collaborate with the Cavalluna performance team to ensure an effective mix of exercise and training programmes for the liberty performances.
- Assign suitable staffing resources to undertake a balanced and varied exercise programme suitable for each of the horses / ponies.
- Work closely with the RHU Supervisor to allocate training facilities and resources effectively.
7. Performances
- Under the direction of the Head of Equestrian Affairs and in collaboration with the Cavalluna team, effectively plan and coordinate the team to deliver regular performances for the public.
- Participate in regular review meetings and undertake associated actions to ensure the quality of the performances remains high.
- Support the Stage Manager to work with Cavalluna and other Club colleagues to ensure suitable resources, props, costumes, technical elements etc. are in place to deliver the displays.
8. Training & Development
- Facilitate the ongoing development of skills and knowledge across all team members through promoting on- the-job training and formal training session attendance.
- Ensure staff pathways are created and succession plans are in place.
- Positively reinforce the importance and value of training throughout staff careers.
9. Transport & Stabling
- Facilitate horse travel and stabling arrangements, ensuring arrangements are made in good time and are well prepared and facilitated with the highest standards of safety and horse welfare at all times.
- Communicate clearly and effectively to internal and external stakeholders for all logistics.
10. Align with Equestrian Affairs Departmental goals
- Work in close collaboration with the Hong Kong Equestrian Affairs operational and administrative teams to achieve a high degree of synergy, cooperation and alignment on all matters.
- Attend supervisor and safety meetings where applicable.
- Collect feedback, share information and updates with management and colleagues.
11. Perform any other duties assigned by the Head of Equestrian Affairs or senior management.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 8 years’ work experience in horse care and horse handling.
- Experience of leading a team of staff.
- Stable management qualifications are desirable.
- Experience of staging performances / project management is highly desirable.
- Excellent horse knowledge, with a passion for horse care
- Able to communicate to team members to produce high motivation and excellent results.
- Fluent in Cantonese, proficient in Mandarin and English.
- Be computer literate, ideally with experience in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Have integrity, be trustworthy, dependable, responsible, and accountable.
- Be proactive, highly motivated, and demonstrate flexibility towards change.
