Deputy Executive Manager, Mainland Legal and Compliance

Job Scope
- This role will be responsible to interface with and provide legal support to various workstreams of
Grandstand project to ensure the launch and subsequent daily operation comply with Mainland legal
and regulatory requirements. In the mid‐longer term, this role will also serve the Hongkong Jokey Club’s other strategic projects in the Mainland.
- This role will work closely with peers within the Mainland Legal and Compliance team and other teams in the Legal and Compliance Department in providing legal advice to mitigate the legal risks in projects and the daily operations. It requires solid academic background and practice experience, and close collaboration with other Business Units to better understand their operations and needs.
- This role is based in Conghua/Guangzhou and reports to the Executive Legal Counsel, Mainland Legal and Compliance.

 

Job Duties
- Provide legal support to daily operations of the Club’s Mainland projects and advise on a wide variety of enquiries / legal issues raised by Business Units, identify and assess potential legal
risks and provide viable solutions to business units for consideration.
- Draft, review and revise letters, contracts, agreement, MOUs, LOAs and other legal documents for Business Units, and participate in contract negotiation and meetings with counterparties as requested by Business Units when necessary.
- Conduct research on laws and regulations of the Mainland, and keep track of the material changes in the relevant laws and regulations which are key to the Club’s Mainland business.
- Advise on potential claims related to the Club’s Mainland project, prepare draft and review dispute resolution related legal documents.
- Coordinate with the Club's Mainland entities and Business Units of the Club with Mainland business operations, to achieve effective communication within the Club so as to resolve Mainland legal issues on a timely basis, and to support local management in handling enquires and communications with Mainland government authorities.
- Liaise with external lawyers to meet business needs and ensure efficient delivery of legal services in business.

 

Requirements:
- The job holder should possess a PRC law degree and have obtained the Certificate of Legal Profession Qualification of PRC.
- The job holder should have at least 10 years' post‐qualification experience in reputable law firms and/or in‐house MNC environment.

- Broad professional knowledge covering the critical business operations of the Club’s Mainland entities, in particular that relating to event organisation and operations at Conghua as well as construction projects in the Mainland.
- Solid experience in handling legal issues, including issue spotting, legal analysis and reporting.
- Good communication in both English and Mandarin, Cantonese is a plus.
- Good reporting skills; ability to complete work tasks independently; analytical thinking and effective team management.
