Assistant Public Affairs Manager (Media Engagement)

Founded in 1884, The Hong Kong Jockey Club (“the Club”) is a world-class racing club that acts continuously for the betterment of our society. The Club has a unique integrated business model, comprising racing and racecourse entertainment, a membership club, responsible sports wagering and lottery, and charities and community contribution. Through this model, the Club generates economic and social value for the community and supports the HKSAR Government in combatting illegal gambling.

The Division

The Corporate Affairs (CA) Division strengthens the strategic development and positioning of the Club as a world-class racing club and charity organisation, through engaging key stakeholders in both Hong Kong and the Mainland, and maintaining efficient and effective corporate communications.​​​

Job Summary

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Public Affairs (Corporate Communications and Media Relations), the job holder supports the development and implementation of communication strategies and assignments to uphold and strengthen the Club's positioning as a world class racing and charity organisation, and to fulfil its purpose of "acting continuously for the betterment of the society" through its unique integrated business model. 

The role will also work with various internal departments and external parties to drive positive publicity for the Club in any assigned tasks and provide communication support to all corporate initiatives (e.g. press materials preparation, event management, etc.). He/she will also be tasked to provide comprehensive support to the department in maintaining healthy and positive relations with media stakeholders and housekeeping record for media engagement and/or sponsorship.

The Job

  • Support various Public Affairs initiatives to drive positive publicity for the Club and strengthen the Club's brand image.
  • Support the media engagement efforts and maintain relationships with media and opinion formers to maximise the Club's PR mileage and mitigate potentially negative issues.
  • Responsible for identifying and evaluating media sponsorship and partnership opportunities; maintaining comprehensive records of media engagements.
  • Provide communications support for corporate initiatives, including implementing publicity plans and developing concise, well-crafted materials to facilitate effective media communications.
  • Assist in conducting news monitoring and clipping, with emphasis on informing project publicity efforts and providing timely insights during issue situations.
  • Undertake any other duties and ad hoc projects as assigned by management or team head.

About You

  • University degree in public relations, communications, journalism or a related discipline; or a relevant qualification equivalent to minimum of 3 years' experience in Public Affairs, Communications or related disciplines.
  • Sound knowledge about the political environment and current affairs in Hong Kong.
  • Possess relevant experience in the media sector, with demonstrated capability in media and influencer engagement; experience in large corporations or MNCs is preferred.
  • Be able to effectively communicate and liaise with multiple parties across departments at different levels
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters in a professional manner
  • Strong self-motivation, detail-conscious, and good at multi-tasking
  • A good team player
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight schedules
  • Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Chinese, as well as strong interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office application including Word, Powerpoint and Excel
