Founded in 1884, The Hong Kong Jockey Club (“the Club”) is a world-class racing club that acts continuously for the betterment of our society. The Club has a unique integrated business model, comprising racing and racecourse entertainment, a membership club, responsible sports wagering and lottery, and charities and community contribution. Through this model, the Club generates economic and social value for the community and supports the HKSAR Government in combatting illegal gambling.
The Division
The Corporate Affairs (CA) Division strengthens the strategic development and positioning of the Club as a world-class racing club and charity organisation, through engaging key stakeholders in both Hong Kong and the Mainland, and maintaining efficient and effective corporate communications.
Job Summary
In support of Public Affairs Department’s strategic communications function to promote the HKJC’s reputation as a global leader, the job holder will report to Deputy Executive Manager to support the strategic communications in the development and generation of media publicity of the Club in Hong Kong. The multi-faceted work will involve driving media communications campaigns and media stakeholder engagement. Through media pitching and outreach, the post holder will play a key role in engaging the local general news media for constructive working relationships to meet the Club’s publicity needs.
The job holder will be a key member to the team to run strategic media campaigns and pitches in promoting the Club as a global leader and brand, horse racing tourism, racing as a sport, racecourse entertainment, staging world class racing in Conghua, animal welfare, anti-illegal betting, etc.
The Job
- Support the team in devising strategic communication strategies, media campaigns and topical stories
- Develop key messages and narratives, and pitch them to the most effective media platforms in promoting the Club as a global leader and brand, horse racing tourism, racing as a sport, racecourse entertainment, staging world class racing in Conghua, animal welfare, anti-illegal betting, etc.
- Plan and engage local general news reporters nurturing a constructive working relationship to generate positive coverage and mitigate potential issues
- Explore and identify potential media partnerships, drafting summaries that clearly outline the expected values and deliverables
- Develop line-to-take and press release on corporate issues and topical areas including animal welfare and the pandemic
Other duties as assigned by supervisors
About You
- A bachelor degree in Journalism, Communications, or other relevant disciplines with a minimum of 6 years’ work experience in journalism or public relations
- Strong knowledge of current affairs
- Sensitive to the prevailing socio-economic and political climate in Hong Kong
- Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese
- Candidate with less experience will be considered for Assistant Public Affairs Manager
