Founded in 1884, The Hong Kong Jockey Club (“the Club”) is a world-class racing club that acts continuously for the betterment of our society. The Club has a unique integrated business model, comprising racing and racecourse entertainment, a membership club, responsible sports wagering and lottery, and charities and community contribution. Through this model, the Club generates economic and social value for the community and supports the HKSAR Government in combatting illegal gambling.

 

The Division

The Corporate Affairs (CA) Division strengthens the strategic development and positioning of the Club as a world-class racing club and charity organisation, through engaging key stakeholders in both Hong Kong and the Mainland, and maintaining efficient and effective corporate communications.​​​

 

Job Summary

In support of Public Affairs Department’s strategic communications function to promote the HKJC’s reputation as a global leader, the job holder will report to Deputy Executive Manager to support the strategic communications in the development and generation of media publicity of the Club in Hong Kong. The multi-faceted work will involve driving media communications campaigns and media stakeholder engagement. Through media pitching and outreach, the post holder will play a key role in engaging the local general news media for constructive working relationships to meet the Club’s publicity needs.

 

The job holder will be a key member to the team to run strategic media campaigns and pitches in promoting the Club as a global leader and brand, horse racing tourism, racing as a sport, racecourse entertainment, staging international standard racing in Conghua, animal welfare, anti-illegal betting, etc.

 

The Job

  • Support the department in developing communication strategies and plans, crafting compelling key messages and narratives, and pitching topical stories to the most effective media platforms. These efforts aim to promote the Club as a global leader and brand in areas such as horse racing tourism, racing as a sport, racecourse entertainment, staging international-standard racing in Conghua, animal welfare, and anti-illegal betting.
  • Create and deliver engaging media stories using words, images, or audio, with a strong understanding of how to produce content that attracts and inspires audiences.
  • Develop content for dissemination through press releases, statements, and other distribution channels, while identifying opportunities to proactively pitch brand and Club stories.
  • Proactively plan and engage with local general news reporters, fostering constructive relationships to generate positive coverage and mitigate potential issues.
  • Explore and identify potential media partnerships, preparing summaries that clearly outline expected value and deliverables.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

About You

  • A bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or other relevant disciplines, with a minimum of 6 years’ work experience in journalism or public relations.
  • Strong knowledge of current affairs and sensitivity to the prevailing socio-economic and political climate in Hong Kong.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese.
  • Candidates with less experience may be considered for the position of Assistant Public Affairs Manager.
  • A strong news sense — training as a print, online, or broadcast journalist would be an advantage.
  • Ability to simplify complex subject matter into clear, impactful messaging and communication materials.
  • Strong media network and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • A self-starter with attention to detail and the ability to work at pace.
  • Flexible to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of horse racing, football, or other sports wagering products is an advantage but not essential.
