Senior Manager, Charities (Sports Facilities Enhancement Programmes)

Founded in 1884, The Hong Kong Jockey Club (“the Club”) is a world-class racing club that acts continuously for the betterment of our society. The Club has a unique integrated business model, comprising racing and racecourse entertainment, a membership club, responsible sports wagering and lottery, and charities and community contribution. Through this model, the Club generates economic and social value for the community and supports the HKSAR Government in combatting illegal gambling.

The Division

The Charities and Community (C&C) Division manages strategic planning, grant donations, impactful project initiation, community engagement, and the day-to-day operations of the HKJC Charities Trust. C&C works with the Government, NGOs, and community partners to proactively identify root causes of social issues and address them through innovative approaches and cross-sectoral collaboration.

The Department

Reporting to Head of Charities (Culture & Sports Cluster; Community Engagement) and Executive Manager, Charities (Health; Sustainability; Mainland and Global Programmes) the job holder will have the primary duty to manage the overall planning, development, and implementation of sports facilities enhancement programmes. The job holder will also support the development and monitoring of grant-making projects.

The Job

  • Provide managerial support and ensure effective execution of sports facilities enhancement programmes, including but not limited to the implementation of all the required project governance and controls, preparation of papers and reports, and maintenance of records for the Club's management team and Charities' Trust's review;
  • Develop the project plans and implementation details for sports facilities enhancement programmes including the tasks, deliverables, schedules and resources required, and maintain a repository of documentations for project governance and audit purposes, including but not limited to funding proposals, agreements, progress reports, meeting minutes, and project publications etc;
  • Monitor the delivery and effectiveness of the project's activities to ensure that they are in line with the project objectives and timelines, and work closely with external project partners to ensure deliverables are in accordance with specifications, schedules and expectations;
  • Plan and monitor matters related to finance (budget monitoring), purchasing and supplies functions (e.g., handling procurement and coordinating contracts and milestone payments to related vendors);
  • Provide coaching, guidance and support to members of the Project Team concerning effective implementation, mitigation of risks, internal and external communication in particular;
  • Work collaboratively with other teams to develop strategic imperatives and funding proposals in relation to related projects;
  • Perform other grant-making functions such as assessing donation applications’ merits, budget and impact, liaising with project partners and drafting approval papers
  • Participate in or support other TIPs, and carry out other duties as directed by Head of Charities (Culture & Sports Cluster; Community Engagement) and/or Executive Manager, Charities (Health; Sustainability; Mainland and Global Programmes)

About You

  • Bachelor's degree or above, preferably in construction management, engineering, sports management, business administration or related fields (engineering background preferred for reading technical charts); Advanced degrees or professional certification in sports administration or nonprofit leadership is a plus.
  • A minimum of 10 years' relevant experience, with 7 years at managerial level, preferably in the social welfare, sports/public administration or charity/grantmaking field
  • Extensive experience working with government, district boards, NGOs, education sector and professional bodies would be an added advantage
