The Division
The Racing Division is committed to managing all aspects of Hong Kong’s world-class sport of horse racing, covering the full value chain — from importation and training to racedays, equestrian, welfare, integrity, and international engagement. The Job
The role reports daily to the Senior Veterinary Team Leader and ultimately to the Principal Racing Veterinary Surgeon (CRC). The job holder provides clinical veterinary services to ensure the health, welfare, and safety of all horses at Conghua Racecourse (CRC) and the Conghua Equine Transfer Station (CETS). The role supports racing operations, equestrian activities, and upholds racing integrity, safety, and regulatory standards of the HKJC.
- Veterinary Care & Clinical Services
- Provide routine and emergency veterinary care to racehorses, retired racehorses, and club-owned horses at CRC and CETS.
- Perform clinical examinations, treatments, and procedures in accordance with HKJC policies and SOPs.
- Assist with diagnostic imaging (e.g. radiography, scintigraphy, CT) when directed and licensed.
- Ensure prompt, effective treatment and follow-up to achieve optimal health outcomes.
- Conduct regular health assessments of retired horses.
- Support emergency veterinary coverage during track work, barrier trials, race meetings, and equestrian events.
- Records, Compliance & Integrity
- Accurately and promptly record all clinical findings and treatments in the Veterinary Management Information System (VMIS).
- Adhere strictly to drug handling, medication control, and security protocols to protect racing integrity.
- Provide clear and accurate medication advice to trainers in line with Department policies.
- Take post-race blood samples when required.
- Follow all Departmental SOPs and regulatory requirements at all times.
- Communication & Stakeholder Support
- Communicate effectively with trainers, assistant trainers, stable staff, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with treatment plans.
- Work closely with senior veterinarians and Racing Control on safety and integrity matters.
- Support horse transport operations between CRC and Sha Tin, including travelling with convoys when required.
- Safety, Standards & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain safe work practices and ensure the safety of support staff.
- Keep up to date with all HKJC and DVCS safety protocols.
- Participate in continuous professional development and peer case discussions.
- Use and care for departmental facilities and equipment responsibly.
- Administration & Other Duties
- Support departmental financial controls by following SOPs for consumables and maintaining accurate records.
- Assist with veterinary reports as requested.
- Perform other duties assigned by supervisors, including temporary secondment to Sha Tin when required.
About You
- A degree in Veterinary Science from a university that is recognised by the Board of Veterinary Surgeons of Hong Kong.
- Experience of equine clinical practice from undergraduate placements and ideally some post-graduate experience in clinical practice.
- Passionate about Thoroughbred flat racing, working with equine athletes, and aware of horse welfare requirements for their physical and mental well-being.
- Fluency in spoken English and good English reading and writing ability.
- Fluency in Mandarin and/or Cantonese is an advantage but not essential.
