Job Summary

The job holder maintains the integrity and efficiency of horse racing events at the Club. This job holder involves assisting in the commencement of races per the Club's Rules of Racing and ensuring compliance with directives from the Chief Stipendiary Steward and governing authorities. Key responsibilities include collaborating with team members to uphold racing integrity, facilitating training programs, and participating in the administration of racing regulations.

Major Tasks

Assist the Starter and/or Deputy Starter during race days, barrier trials, and stalls tests as directed.
Maintain continuous communication with the Starter and support staff to ensure safe and fair race starts.
Oversee the loading of horses into starting gates in the correct order according to the official draw.
Ensure adherence to all safety procedures to protect jockeys, Starting Gate Handlers, and horses.
Organize the order of loading horses for races and barrier trials to maximize safety and integrity.
Assist in maintaining detailed records of horses' barrier behavior to facilitate safe loading and qualification.
Communicate effectively with Trainers and stable staff to identify and assist horses with starting difficulties.
Participate in the monitoring of trackwork, including official barrier trials and stalls tests.
Engage in office administration tasks such as data collection and record-keeping.
Support disciplinary actions and disseminate race day information as required.

Education

Education at the secondary level is required.

Qualifications

Experience

Considerable experience as a horseperson with a strong knowledge of horses is necessary.
Experience in a senior position related to horse racing is preferred.
