Tracks Management Staff

Job Summary

Providing support on the general maintenance and operation of all track maintenance and turf management for the preparation of high standard race tracks.

Major Tasks

Raceday Operations

  • To attend race meeting duties such as raceday footing preparation, starting gate positioning, divots repair, track rolling, going inspection, raceday team positioning, presentation stage mobilisation, emergent rail repair at the incident scene, etc.

Tracks maintenance

  • To assist turf track maintenance activities such as divot repair, rail repositioning, mowing, turf block repairing, turfing, stolonizing, oversowing, plant protection etc.
  • To have hands-on, machinery operation & sampling skill on Dirt and Sand footing maintenance
  • To understand and operate various Turf and Dirt Track maintenance
  • To define, plan, implement track maintenance activities
  • To monitor the quality and maintenance standard for tracks and fringe areas
  • To conduct racetrack assessment
  • Supervise a team of staff with emphasis on manual labour to cover morning trackwork & daytime duties

Laboratory testing

  • To devise quality and lab testing plan for tracks construction material and performance footing.
  • To coordinate with overseas lab testing specialists on samples processing, data interpretation and running of certain diagnostic tests locally.
  • To provide training of management staff members on aforesaid sampling, testing, data processing procedures.
  • To conduct field and lab tests and prepare technical reports for:
    • sand and tissue nutrient content
    • root survey
    • profile strength
    • porosity
    • hydraulic conductivity
    • pH
    • organic matter content and ageing

Manpower management

  • To assist Tracks operations Manager in managing a team and manual grade staff

Occupational Safety & Health management

  • To implement Occupational Safety & Health management system and handle agricultural chemicals application on tracks

Budget management

  • To assist Tracks operations Manager to handle the budget development, control and monitoring budget expenditures.

Other Duties

  • To communicate with various departments within the Club, understanding their scope of works and areas of mutual co-operation, such as:
    • Administration Department for office services, transport services, auditing, purchasing and cleaning operations as required.
    • Property & FM Department for Tracks repair and maintenance work, watering of tracks, development of new track surfaces, major repairs on turf and all weather surfaces.
    • Human Resources Department for recruitments, disciplinary actions, and other personnel matters.
    • Security Department for security measures of tracks and related activities.
    • Racing Control Department for safety on morning track works.
  • To be responsible for project management and carry out data collection for dirt and turf tracks and turf studies

Education

Tertiary education in Agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant and Soil Science, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biology, Chemistry or the equivalent.

Qualifications

Experience

  • Five years or above working experience and at least 3 years' supervisory and hands-on experience in tracks maintenance matters.
