Deputy Executive Manager, Membership Development (Mainland)

Founded in 1884, The Hong Kong Jockey Club (“the Club”) is a world-class racing club that acts continuously for the betterment of our society. The Club has a unique integrated business model, comprising racing and racecourse entertainment, a membership club, responsible sports wagering and lottery, and charities and community contribution. Through this model, the Club generates economic and social value for the community and supports the HKSAR Government in combatting illegal gambling.

The Division - Membership & Customer Excellence (MCE)

The Membership and Customer Excellence (MCE) Division is responsible for delivering world-class experiences and deepening engagement across all customer segments. The team oversees operations of clubhouses, racecourses, and Off-Course Betting Branches (OCBBs), while enhancing member and owner value propositions and promoting interest in horse ownership and equestrian sports. It leads the Club’s customer experience strategy across digital and physical touchpoints, ensuring consistency, agility, and excellence. The Division also manages data strategy and governance to build a unified view of customers, enabling more personalised and impactful interactions.

The Job

  • Devise strategies and engagement plan for recruiting quality Mainland members with a particular focus on ownership potential as well as propensity for giving back to society. Focus on acquiring a “new market” whereby there is deep resonance with HKJC values and with a view to developing these members into future spokespersons and strategic partners for the Club.
  • Lead sub-team and execute the engagement plan and achieve the intake of member recruitment targets (exact figures to be communicated separately). Work in tandem with the existing MD team to achieve collective recruitment targets, but also be individually responsible for sub-team target as assigned by management.
  • Once members are recruited, assist in executing systemic plan to ensure that they progress towards ownership – i.e. qualifying as racing member, then submitting ballots; work closely with racing team to ensure final conversion to ownership (final active horse number is an overarching KPI).
  • Maintain daily relationships and work closely with MA team for the servicing of members, primarily focused on member accounts which are acquired by this sub-team.

About You

  • A Master’s degree in Business related disciplines
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in a managerial role within a sizable organization with a focus on China market development preferred, with a particular focus in sales related function and direct customer engagement.- e.g. private banking background with a ready portfolio of (Mainland) client base strongly preferred
  • Well-rounded skillset combining verbal / written communications, strategic mind- set, analytical savvy, and ability to implement and work across functions
  • Deep familiarity with mainland China business environment is required, preferably with a large network of business contacts and professional vendor contacts
  • Deep familiarity with Club products such as racing and society betterment, and the ability to articulate and connect with constituents using these topics
  • Native level fluency in spoken English / Mandarin required; in particular, highly polished/eloquent writing skills in both English and Chinese is a must; Cantonese skills a plus but not required
  • Demonstrated experience and skills in problem solving and keen sense of customer needs. The ability to deeply connect clients and the patience in addressing their issues is a key
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel and Word required
