Manager, Charities (Mainland & Global Programmes) - Mainland Engagement

The Hong Kong Jockey Club

Founded in 1884, The Hong Kong Jockey Club (“the Club”) is a world-class racing club that acts continuously for the betterment of our society. The Club has a unique integrated business model, comprising racing and racecourse entertainment, a membership club, responsible sports wagering and lottery, and charities and community contribution. Through this model, the Club generates economic and social value for the community and supports the HKSAR Government in combatting illegal gambling.

The Division

The Charities and Community (C&C) Division manages strategic planning, grant donations, impactful project initiation, community engagement, and the day-to-day operations of the HKJC Charities Trust. C&C works with the Government, NGOs, and community partners to proactively identify root causes of social issues and address them through innovative approaches and cross-sectoral collaboration.

The Department

The staff will support the development of a strategic knowledge and convening platform on philanthropy for the Institute of Philanthropy (IoP). The staff will be part of IoP’s core team and secretariat, and will work directly with project partners, internal and external stakeholders and contractors.

The Job

  • Support the development and implementation of IoP’s programmes and engagement in the Mainland, including developing execution plans, sourcing and establishing strategic partners with global and Chinese world-leading institutions, and managing and reporting Programme progress.
  • Organise events, multi-disciplinary forums and programmes to convene thought leaders, scholars, practitioners, and members of the public for knowledge sharing and social change ideas development related to philanthropy.
  • Drive research and analysis of philanthropy landscape and issues relevant to philanthropy for the design and development of IoP’s Mainland Strategy.
  • Consolidate and analyse internal institutional knowledge materials and prepare presentation materials to communicate findings. Curate and translate content for different audience groups.
  • Manage administrative processes, coordinate with Club divisions in key processes including budget monitoring and reporting, vendor engagement and procurement, and branding and communications.
  • Support the implementation of IoP’s governance and monitoring to ensure effective execution.
  • Prepare progress reports, board papers, presentation and provide secretarial support for any committees and working groups of IoP.

About You

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least 6 years of relevant working experience, preferably in fields related to philanthropy (broadly include academia, non-profit, sustainability, health, social science, etc.) 
  • Knowledge of global and/or Mainland philanthropy sector
  • Excellent communication skills (in English, Cantonese and Mandarin Chinese), and project development and management skills
  • Business development competence
  • Events organisation experience
  • Strong analytical abilities and ability to apply strategic frameworks and problem-solving approaches
  • Proven ability to draft clearly and concisely and to produce high-quality papers and synthesis documents
  • Good team working and cross-departmental collaboration skills, high-order thinking skills, and time management skills.
