Manager, External Affairs (CARE Volunteer Team)

Founded in 1884, The Hong Kong Jockey Club (“the Club”) is a world-class racing club that acts continuously for the betterment of our society. The Club has a unique integrated business model, comprising racing and racecourse entertainment, a membership club, responsible sports wagering and lottery, and charities and community contribution. Through this model, the Club generates economic and social value for the community and supports the HKSAR Government in combatting illegal gambling.

The Division

The Security, Integrity and Information Security (“SIIS") Division is responsible for the preservation of integrity by combatting criminality and corruption risks that can threaten horse racing, betting, and membership at the Club. The maintenance of a secure environment and integrity is key to our business. Not only is it important to ensure horse racing in Hong Kong is fair, it is also of paramount importance to the Club that there is governance and fair opportunities in all bet-placements. The department consists of Integrity & Financial Crime Risk, Racing Security & Integrity Assurance, Corporate Security and Information Security Risk & Assurance functions.

Job Summary

Reporting to Senior Manager, External Affairs (CARE) (“SM, EA(CARE)”), the post holder assists in:

  • managing the CARE Volunteer Team and exploring service opportunities at community level to fulfil the Club’s Corporate Social Responsibility as well as to promote the positive image of the Club for the betterment of Hong Kong.
  • planning and implementation of the strategy for the long-term development and management of the CARE Volunteer Team with a view to strengthening their capacity and profile as the Club’s frontline ambassadors at the community level.
  • building and maintaining a network of relationship with community partners and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) with high engagement value through social service delivery and to achieve the goals set by SM, EA(CARE).

The Job

  • Support the management of the CARE Volunteer Team and to promote Club’s employee volunteering; to plan and identify suitable voluntary service programmes by taking the Club’s business interests, district politics and sensitive social issues into account.
  • Assist in cultivating, nurturing and maintaining a network of relationship with various NGOs and district-based organisations with an aim to enlist their continued support of the Club’s proposed projects and/or initiatives through the Club’s volunteer team.
  • Help explore new opportunities for service delivery; design volunteer service programmes in collaboration with community partners; and review the voluntary service strategy on a regular basis for the long-term development of the CARE Volunteer Team through in-depth research. To coordinate with various departments in promoting CARE Volunteer Team.
  • Organise service training programmes and skill refinement classes for CARE volunteers to enhance service quality and their motivation.
  • Manage the operation of volunteer service programmes and coordinate with organizers and volunteers for the logistics arrangements.
  • Conduct desktop research on issues relevant to the volunteer team, district personalities, community organisations, etc.
  • Assist supervisor in supporting major events and projects undertaken by EA to ensure successful delivery and full compliance with the internal processes.
  • Monitor developments in the community and collect community feedback of issues relations to the Club.
  • Provide administrative support to the team, including but not limit to monitoring the master record of CARE Volunteer Team service hours, handling insurance matter for the CARE Volunteer Team, coordination with Public Affairs on media promotion, preparing write-ups for internal promotional channels.
  • Supervise the work of junior team member(s); and to undertake any duties assigned by supervisors.

About You

  • University degree holder with at least over 8 years of relevant experience
  • Ability to engage and establish rapport with local stakeholders and organisations of different backgrounds, interests and expectations
  • Good knowledge of local NGOs of relevant fields and relevant key stakeholders.
  • Understanding of the trend and development of corporate social responsibility in local context
  • Experience and capability in event management, volunteer project planning and execution
  • Hands-on experience in project planning and execution
  • Experience in working with district organisations and NGOs
