Manager, Public Affairs

Job Summary

Reporting to Deputy Executive Manager, the job holder will be responsible for reputation management and/or strategic communications. In support of Public Affairs Departments’ integral function to safeguard corporate reputation, the job holder will provide assistance to uphold the Club’s Crisis Prevention and Management Policy. This job holder will be part of the team taking charge of tracking, monitoring and daily management reporting of important current affairs and social media development of reference to the Club in the wider community, as well as gauging public sentiment. He/she will also assist the team leader closely in the detection, alerting and mitigation of sensitive corporate issues.

 

Depending on the skill set of the candidate, he/she could be assigned to assist in the strategic communications functions to run media campaigns and pitches in promoting the Club as a global leader and brand, racing as a sport, racecourse entertainment, horse racing tourism, staging international standard racing in Conghua, animal welfare, anti-illegal betting, etc.

 

The Job

You will:

  • Track Club-related issues, trending news, and public discussions by monitoring media and social media.
  • Play a key role in developing daily and weekly reports to inform management about external political, social, and economic sensitivities, as well as media and public sentiment.
  • Support the team leader in preventing and managing sensitive issues to avoid negative publicity through real-time monitoring, accurate assessment, and timely reporting of public sentiment on Club-related matters.
  • Manage vendors responsible for social listening.
  • Advise business units on potential reputational risks or sensitivities in the Club’s promotional materials.
  • Develop key messages and narratives and pitch them to the most effective media platforms.

 

About You

You should have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or other relevant disciplines, with a minimum of 6 years’ work experience in journalism or public relations.
  • Excellent command of written English and Chinese.
  • Strong understanding of the overall media and political landscape, as well as current affairs in Hong Kong.
  • Political sensitivity and sound PR judgment.
  • Knowledge of social media trends and sentiment reporting.
  • Attention to detail and strong analytical thinking skills.
  • A self-starter who can deliver under tight deadlines.
  • Flexibility to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Availability for a five-day work week; candidates may be required to work on a roster in regular patterns during afternoons and nights on weekdays and weekends (Saturday or Sunday) based on team alignment.
  • Candidates with less experience will be considered for the Assistant Public Affairs Manager position.

 

Terms of Employment

The level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
