Founded in 1884, The Hong Kong Jockey Club (“the Club”) is a world-class racing club that acts continuously for the betterment of our society. The Club has a unique integrated business model, comprising racing and racecourse entertainment, a membership club, responsible sports wagering and lottery, and charities and community contribution. Through this model, the Club generates economic and social value for the community and supports the HKSAR Government in combatting illegal gambling.
The Division
The Transformation Office (TO) plays a pivotal role in driving the transformation journey. Its purpose is to set the direction and cadence for transformation programs, ensuring the Club’s future growth and sustainability of its existence and developing into a healthy, high-performing organisation.
The Department
As part of TO, the Corporate Strategy & Business Planning Office (CSBPO) focuses on supporting the CEO and BOM to define, implement and govern corporate strategy, and to uphold the Club’s integrated business model. This includes corporate strategy development, gaming revenue management, strategic‑led Integrated Business Planning, Corporate KPI setting and tracking, governance and BOS engagement, as well as other special corporate projects with the CEO’s direct mandate.
Specifically, Strategic Management and Market Insights (“SMMI”) SMMI plays a key role in shaping the holistic HKJC corporate strategy to enable long-term sustainable development of the Club, taking into consideration external market and competition dynamics and internal challenges. In addition, SMMI partners with Corporate Planning & Analysis, Finance and People & Organization Development to co-facilitate the drive the Club’s Integrated Business Planning process, which includes the development of budget and business plans and setting of leadership KPIs for all divisions. SMMI also undertakes major CEO-level strategic or transformational projects that are complex and cross-functional in nature, providing support in different capacities ranging from research and analytical support, leadership alignment facilitation to PMO management.
Job Summary
Reporting to Head of SMMI and work closely with multiple divisions/departments, the DEM/SM will play a management/ facilitation role in:
- Corporate Strategic Projects
- Integrated Business Planning and Senior Leadership KPI management
- Macro & Market Insights studies
The DEM/SM will also work closely with other department heads in TO/CSBPO to ensure cohesive linkages, including Head of Corporate Planning and Analysis for wagering revenue planning and annual Integrated Business Planning (IBP) process management, and Head of Transformation Programmes for related program linkages and KPI management.
In addition, the job holder would be prepared to support additional projects or assignments based on supervisor guidance and approval, acting as a role model to demonstrate agility, collaboration, accountability, result-orientation as part of the Club’s One Club One Team culture.
The Job
- Corporate Strategic Projects: The DEM/SM will play a key role to facilitate the smooth planning and implementation of corporate strategic projects to drive the Club’s long-term business success. Specifically, he/she will facilitate cross-divisional initiatives, manage stakeholder relationships, support analytical pieces, promote agile ways of working, define and track KPIs to ensure focused delivery of results.
- Corporate Strategic Priorities: The DEM/SM will support i) identification of key opportunities and threats for the Club’s integrated business model, ii) alignment of strategic priorities and focus across divisions, which will guide strategic prioritization of resources and future investments of the Club, iii) articulation of “case for change” and strategic purposes for key cross-divisional transformations of the Club, iv) Facilitation/ project management of strategic initiatives; including alignment of key stakeholder engagement focus and v) definition of key business impact KPIs and tracking of progress along key drivers.
- Macro and Market Insights: Leveraging primary and secondary research, the DEM/SM will lead a small team to proactively monitor key macro / market trends and competitive intelligence, so as to identify key potential opportunities and threats for the Club’s integrated business model. Develop strong partnership with other divisions (such as Sports Business, MCE, Racing, SIIS, Corporate Affairs) to synthesis key market insights and trends in order to build a consolidated base of market and competitive insights for CEO and BOM.
- Strategic Led Integrated Business Planning (IBP) Support: Alongside with other CSBPO management team members, this DEM/SM with partner with assigned divisions to orchestrate the annual IBP process, with a mission to guide divisions to focus on agreed corporate strategic priorities, develop concrete Divisional Operating Plans to drive business performance, agility and operating efficiency. The DEM/SM will also work with divisions to ensure CEO-direct report KPIs are properly defined (impact driven) and objectively assessed.
- Strategic Linkages between Mainland and Hong Kong / Overseas markets: Under the guidance of DCSBP and in partnership with relevant China teams, the DEM/SM will need to identify and manage key strategic linkages between Hong Kong and the Mainland, to ensure coherency of the Club’s corporate strategy across Hong Kong and the Mainland. In key relevant areas, extend that linkage alignment to relevant overseas markets (when needed).
- Under the guidance of Director / HoDs, play a proactive role in the formulation of key internal papers or presentations for SP related Steering Committee, BOM, and BOS.
About You
- Bachelor Degree with strong standing (Second Upper or First Honours), in business, engineering or any disciplines, from top Hong Kong or leading universities worldwide
- Master Degree in Business Related Discipline, from top leading business schools (if Bachelor degree is not related to business), is a plus
- 10+ years working experiences for DEM, candidates with lesser experience will be considered for Senior Manager level
- Strong track record in strategic consulting and change management with major consulting firms; or in-house corporate strategic planning experience with large corporates is a plus
- Understanding of consumer business drivers and dynamics with relevant Hong Kong and Mainland China market knowledge
- Strategy and change management project leadership experience
- Facilitation and influencing skills with stakeholders up to C-level executives
- Team leadership experience (for high calibre in-house consulting team)
- Excellent paper writing and story-telling skills
- Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English, Cantonese, and Mandarin
