The Division
The Finance Division is a key business partner, balancing oversight with support. The Department
The Investment Risk unit supports in risk identification, measurement, and assessment, spanning multiple levels across overall asset allocation, individual asset classes, and managers.
The Job
- Be responsible for design, implementation, operation, and management of comprehensive data and analytics systems that feed into the Investment Office’s overall portfolio management and risk analysis and reporting processes, in close collaboration with the Senior Manager, Investment Risk.
- Work closely with team members across the Investment Office on data process issues across the portfolio, deepening understanding of specific asset classes, financial products, and investment strategies and how they can be systematically ingested, represented, and stored in a centralized database.
- Support the Head of Investment Risk and Senior Manager, Investment Risk in making decisions on the detailed design aspects of the data infrastructure to ensure a flexible, robust, and institutional foundation for the Investment Office’s analytical requirements and decision making
- Develop and improve the analytical capabilities of the Investment Office’s overall data platform to improve insight generation and working efficiency across the portfolio.
- Undertake special research projects as required
About You
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related discipline; post-graduate degree preferred.
- 2-8 years of experience in a heavily technical role that entails dealing with data infrastructure and databases, ideally within the asset management industry. Close experience with financial products and investment portfolios is helpful.
- Excellent attention to detail and a solid grasp of both pure data and programming issues as well as quantitative analysis.
- A systematic thinker who probes for underlying root causes and considers how they could be addressed.
- A good team player who understands the broader context and knows when to take initiative.
- Advanced skills in Excel and programming experience, particularly in Python. OOP experience is strongly preferred. SQL is an asset.
- Strong ability to handle large and disparate datasets. Experience with ETL tools such as Alteryx is advantageous.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills with a solid grasp of the “story behind the numbers” is valuable.
- Experience with MSCI Barra (or similar systems) is a significant asset.
- Sound analytical and multidisciplinary problem solving skills.
