Locum Veterinary Surgeon

Job Summary

The job holder is responsible for providing quality veterinary clinical services for racehorses in training at the HKJC and for participation in services and initiatives that will contribute to meeting the expectations of the DVCS customers, internal and external, including Racing Control, veterinary regulation, trainers, horse owners and other stakeholders. The job holder will support colleagues managing complex cases by providing expert opinion and technical advice as required and make all reasonable efforts to be aware of emerging evidence-based techniques relating to equine racetrack practice and to implement changes to improve the level of service where appropriate.

Major Tasks

Provision of High Quality Veterinary Clinical Services

Provide high quality veterinary clinical services to racehorses at the Shatin Racecourse and, when rostered, at the Conghua Racecourse to ensure racehorses are healthy and able to contribute to the racing product through:

Avoid Incidents Compromising Racing Integrity

Maintain Safe Work Practices

Race-Day Veterinary Injury and Incident Management

Professional Advice to Owners and Trainers.

Financial Performance Contribution

 

Education

A primary degree in Veterinary Science from a university that is recognised by the Board of Veterinary Surgeons of Hong Kong together with relevant post graduate qualifications and proven experience in Thoroughbred racehorse veterinary practice, and an interest in research.

Experience

  • Sufficient experience in equine clinical practice
  • A minimum of seven years in equine clinical practice.
  • Clinical experience and confidence in dealing with Thoroughbred racehorses and trainers.
