Locum Veterinary Surgeon

The Division

The Racing Division is committed to managing all aspects of Hong Kong’s world-class sport of horse racing, covering the full value chain — from importation and training to racedays, equestrian, welfare, integrity, and international engagement.  With Conghua Racecourse and Greater Bay Area expansion, we’re shaping racing into a dynamic sporting, social, and entertainment experience.

The Job

Reporting to the Head of Veterinary Clinical Services, this role delivers high-quality clinical care to racehorses at HKJC while supporting the Club’s vision through effective team collaboration and resource management.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive veterinary services for racehorses, including diagnosis, treatment, preventive care, and emergency response across Shatin and Conghua racecourses.
  • Deliver specialist surgical support and expert consultation on complex cases.
  • Ensure compliance with veterinary regulations, racing integrity standards, and biosecurity protocols.
  • Support horse health monitoring, pre-race examinations, and injury/disease prevention strategies.
  • Collaborate with trainers, owners, and internal stakeholders through clear communication and professional reporting.
  • Contribute to race-day veterinary services, incident management, and post-mortem investigations.
  • Stay current with advances in equine veterinary science and drive continuous improvement in clinical practices.
  • Support horse import/export processes, insurance evaluations, and international racing activities.

About You

  • A primary degree in Veterinary Science or Veterinary Medicine is essential and preferably registrable with the Veterinary Surgeons’ Board in Hong Kong.
  • Post-graduate training or qualification in equine surgery,  sports medicine, diagnostic imaging or another relevant discipline
  • Experience in the practice of quality equine racetrack medicine: routine veterinary care, prevention, diagnosis and management of veterinary conditions in Thoroughbred racehorses
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of veterinary aspects of the Thoroughbred racing industry
  • A strong interest in sports medicine and rehabilitation is desirable
  • A trained and qualified specialist equine surgeon.
  • Sufficient experience in equine clinical practice.
  • Clinical experience and confidence in dealing with Thoroughbred racehorses and trainers.
  • Passionate about Thoroughbred flat racing, working with equine athletes and equine medicine
