Equestrian Coach, Pony World

The Department

The Equestrian Affairs Department aims to fulfil the Club’s vision to promote riding as a sport and raise participation at all levels, from beginner through to elite. It oversees the management of four equestrian centres, including the Member’s facility at the Beas River Country Club and three public riding schools at Tuen Mun, Lei Yue Mun Park and Pok Fu Lam. To achieve its aims, the department is introducing Pony World, a new educational equestrian facility located in Penfold Park at Shatin Racecourse.

The Job

You will

  • Deliver quality services to customers
    • Safely conduct lead rein pony riding sessions, ensuring excellent quality services
    • Lead exhibition stable visit tours, introducing tack and feed rooms, as well as daily operation
    • Be open to feedback from clients and improve performance accordingly
    • Support administration team to provide timely and efficient services to members
  • Enhance riding establishment safety standards
    • Follow company safety directives, observe & promote safety guidelines & initiatives
    • Regularly school horses and ponies to maintain good behavior and well-being
    • Review & examine tack to ensure safety & optimum fit for horses
  • Support Club Veterinarians and Head Farriers in day-to-day operations
    • Ensure the best welfare and well-being of horses and ponies by cooperating with Equestrian Assistants
    • Follow instructions from professional staff
    • Communicate information to fellow coaches, EA’s as necessary
    • Provide feedback to professional staff & management
  • Upgrade staff competency and qualifications
    • Make the most of developmental & career opportunities offered
    • Help team members to upgrade their skills
    • Provide on-the-job-training to colleagues
    • Encourage exam targets & career progression
  • Liaise with other HKJC Departments, government departments
    • Attend regular internal staff meetings
    • Assist with & support any events, shows and clinics, and encourage customers to participate
    • Promote equestrian sports off site through roadshows and HKJC Events (where applicable)
  • Align to manage day-to-day operations to
    • Aim to continually increase efficiency of Pony World business levels
    • Work closely with the administration team to facilitate lessons & requests
    • Support & adhere to HKJC and EAD management policies & procedures
  • Complete coaches’ administration tasks
    • Prepare an incident report within 24 hours of such event(s)
    • Complete daily schooling / lesson attendance records by 6pm daily

About You

You should have

  • The job holder must have acquired BHS Stage 3 Complete or equivalent with a minimum of 4 years relevant work experience
  • Holder of first-aid certificates
  • Knowledge of training methods for schooling a variety of horses and ponies both under saddle and from the ground
  • Personable, enthusiastic and positive personality
  • Passion for horses and horse riding
  • Excellent command of both written and spoken English and Chinese
  • Positive, professional relationships with clients even when challenges arise
  • Balance the welfare of the horse with commercial responsibilities

The level of appointment will be commensurate with qualification and experience.
