Senior Research Analyst
Job Summary
The job holder will manage day to day quantitative and data-driven analysis and investigation into local and transnational unregulated betting networks. The job holder will work in identifying, mapping, analysing, and understanding the dynamics of unregulated betting markets and related financial crime risks and negative social impacts, using advanced research methodologies, data-driven insights, and automated processes / artificial intelligence / machine-learning models. He/she will contribute to producing evidence and information to be shared with internal and external stakeholders both locally and internationally in order to inform decision-making and strategy, and to encourage direct action against unregulated betting, thus furthering the Hong Kong Jockey Club's core mission of bettering society.
Major Tasks
- Act as lead analyst on quantitative and data-led research projects into unregulated betting markets and related financial crime and integrity risks, reporting findings to manager
- Run data-driven and statistical analysis to uncover patterns in existing data sets (such as survey data, website traffic analysis, and website IP, DNS and WHOIS information) and assist manager in identifying new tools and techniques to collect data and improve analysis
- Build and maintain models to analyse the scale of unregulated betting markets in Hong Kong, Mainland China and beyond, including the estimated market size in dollar terms and consequent financial impact on society
- Manage robotic process automation / machine learning / artificial intelligence processes to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of unregulated betting research and analysis; assist manager in identifying and designing new such processes
- Collaborate with Due Diligence and Research and other IFCR teams, as well as colleagues from other departments
- Support production of high-quality reports, presentations, and other materials to communicate findings and recommendations, especially automated data-driven visualisations and dashboards
- Research, identify and map potential key stakeholders such as industry experts, regulators, and others particularly in fields related to online threat networks, such as internet / cloud / social media / other technology providers and regulators, cyber-crime and financial crime bodies, and similar areas.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to the team's capabilities and expertise by sharing knowledge and insights.
- Support the Asian Racing Federation Council on Anti-Illegal betting with research findings suitable for public consumption by its stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with Responsible Gambling Policy and all stipulated legal requirements, and thereby protecting the integrity of the Club's businesses.
Education
A degree in a field involving quantitative research, such as data science, economics, finance, statistics.
Qualifications
Relevant certifications/specialized courses/professional qualifications in fields related to data analysis and/or AI is a plus.
