Senior Manager / Deputy Executive Manager, Club-wide Sustainability

Founded in 1884, The Hong Kong Jockey Club (“the Club”) is a world-class racing club that acts continuously for the betterment of our society. The Club has a unique integrated business model, comprising racing and racecourse entertainment, a membership club, responsible sports wagering and lottery, and charities and community contribution. Through this model, the Club generates economic and social value for the community and supports the HKSAR Government in combatting illegal gambling.
The Division
The Charities and Community (C&C) Division manages strategic planning, grant donations, impactful project initiation, community engagement, and the day-to-day operations of the HKJC Charities Trust. C&C works with the Government, NGOs, and community partners to proactively identify root causes of social issues and address them through innovative approaches and cross-sectoral collaboration.
The Department
The Club-wide Sustainability (CwS) department develops and ensures the implementation of Club-wide environmental-related strategies, policies, and programs across key divisions and operations in both Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland. It is also responsible for driving the Club’s sustainability agenda and strategy, as well as the delivery of sustainability reporting and communications.
The Job
- Lead the Sustainability Strategy & Communications (SSC) team to develop and execute HKJC’s Sustainability agenda, aiming for alignment with global best practices and organisational objectives.
- Support the Executive Manager of Club-wide Sustainability (EM-CwS) in developing and maintaining robust sustainability governance frameworks, ensuring alignment with appropriate global standards, regulatory requirements, and HKJC’s strategic sustainability objectives.
- Engaging Business Units (BUs) and Corporate Functions (CFs) to drive continuous improvement in sustainability governance, while fostering transparency and reporting integrity.
- Lead the development and regular review of HKJC's sustainability strategy and related frameworks to ensure alignment with evolving regulatory requirements, industry best practices, societal expectations, and organisational objectives. This includes conducting gap analyses, benchmarking against global standards, and facilitating stakeholder consultations to enhance policy effectiveness and operational relevance.
- Lead the development of annual thought leadership papers by analysing global and regional sustainability trends, translating insights into strategic recommendations that align with HKJC’s operational priorities and community impact goals. As required, develop strategy papers to advance the Club’s sustainability objectives.
- Support EM-CwS in planning and organizing the quarterly Sustainability Committee (SC) meetings. In preparation for SusCom meetings or relevant BOM meetings, develop papers as needed to translate sustainability research into clear strategic recommendations.
- Lead the internal Club-wide Sustainability Champions Network to ensure participation and representation across the Club at all working levels on the brainstorming, discussion, development, review and implementation of the Club’s sustainability-related strategies, policies, systems, processes, initiatives and activities.
- Organize a biennial Club-wide Sustainability Forum to support internal communications on any sustainability-related strategies, policies, systems, processes, initiatives and activities, as well as capacity building on leading best practices and emerging technologies and trends.
- Drive HKJC's sustainability leadership and reputation by strategically engaging with external organisations through memberships in relevant industry associations, participation in high-impact sustainability events, and targeted sponsorships that amplify environmental initiatives. Where appropriate represent HKJC at forums, conferences, and working groups to share best practices, influence policy development, and foster partnerships that advance shared sustainability goals.
- Develop and deliver targeted capacity building programs focused on leading international best practices, emerging technologies and sustainability-related trends to help build innovation capacity across the Club. Collaborate with internal teams and external experts to create resources, workshops, and knowledge-sharing platforms that empower employees to implement best practices in their roles. Provide support to BUs and CFs as required on capacity building exercises.
About You
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related discipline and relevant qualifications demonstrating a mature understanding of implementing sustainability projects in a large organisation
- Relevant professional qualifications such as Certified Project Manager and PMP or experience in Business Process Improvement and Total Quality Management Experienced in executive engagement
- Minimum 15 years of experience in the field of environmental sustainability, corporate sustainability strategy, research and development
- Experienced in developing and implementing sustainability strategies and programs
- Technical knowledge of sustainability strategy and frameworks, including experience in development and execution
- Active and knowledgeable in sustainability related megatrends on local, regional and global levels
- Capable to set up management systems, assess and monitor environmental aspects & impacts of operational activities
- Knowledge in the Racing, Hospitability, and Construction industries.
- Have existing relationships with environmental organisations in China and Hong Kong
- Able to analyse information and data in a manner that highlights key issues and root causes. Be able to evaluate environmental technologies and process change to achieve environmental and operational objectives
- Practical knowledge of environmental legislation and statutory obligations that affect the provision and delivery of Club operations and services.
- Knowledge of Hong Kong and China government services and environmental consultancy services
- Ability to lead external partnerships and represent the Club in external events/forums as a subject matter expert
- Proven ability to scope and manage technical environmental consultants
- Excellent planning, organization, and project management skills
- High level of proficiency in written and spoken English and Chinese
