Senior Technical Manager, Network Automation

We design, build, and operate the technology that powers the Club. Our primary focus is on delivering the service that supports our hospitality, racing and wagering operations, to ensure that our customers and members enjoy exceptional experiences.

We also deliver the changes necessary to drive business growth through new products and services. And, we are committed to safeguarding the Club by protecting it from external threats, providing a secure and resilient technological environment.

The Department

The IT Infrastructure and Platform Operations Department is responsible for the design, implementation, and management of the infrastructure that supports the Club’s IT systems, and leads the Service Management capabilities that ensure the smooth running of these systems.

This department ensures that all technological resources operate efficiently and effectively to support business objectives. Key responsibilities include:

  • Design and operate processes and controls that ensure IT service availability, performance, and resilience are aligned with business expectations.
  • Manage the 24x7 IT Operations Centre.
  • Manage the Club’s exploitation of the public cloud.
  • Manage the complete lifecycle of the Club’s IT network and the technology within our data centres.
  • Provide the roadmaps, standards, and capabilities that enable our IT infrastructure to remain current (eligible for vendor support) and secure (patched and remediated against CVEs).
  • Provide the Club’s colleague collaboration technology suite, including desktop and laptop computers, mobile devices, collaboration tools, carrier contracts, and associated support functions.

The Job

You will:

  • Develop and implement HKJC’s network automation architecture and strategy. Directly engage with IT peers and service consumers to ensure that automation initiatives align with overall IT and business objectives
  • Provide cost-effective, high-quality, high-performance, and robust automated network solutions and services to meet the Club’s business needs, balancing complexity, standardisation, and TCO. Maintain alignment of automation services with business strategies and objectives
  • Drive the adoption of best practice frameworks and industry standards to ensure best-in-class delivery of automated network solutions and services, including driving multi-vendor automation (Cisco, Huawei, Fortinet, etc.) using tools such as Ansible, Python, Terraform, NSO, or similar tools
  • Collaborate with vendors and other external service providers to design, plan, implement, and upgrade network automation tools, platforms, and workflows. Ensure the delivery of high-quality, automated network services and solutions. Manage suppliers to ensure compliance with the agreed service levels
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, security, operations, business, and management, to ensure automation solutions are effective and meet all stakeholder needs. Ensure the overall architecture and standards for network automation align with Enterprise Architecture and development lifecycle activities. Contribute to the continuous improvement of automation delivery methods and service level standards
  • Establish and enforce automated network security measures to protect the HKJC’s systems and data. Work in cooperation with the Information Security Department to ensure network automation solutions and services comply with established information security standards and practices
  • Stay up to date with the latest industry trends and best practices, and identify improvement opportunities for network enhancements and upgrades
  • Provide guidance, coaching and mentoring for the necessary resources required to attain and maintain zero major system outage during prime business hours against defined availability targets of core betting systems
  • Create and foster a diverse and inclusive culture with trust and respect to attract, develop and retain talents. Serve as a role model to support cross-team/division/department efforts and model collaborative behaviours. Inspire the team to bring forward ideas and solutions to empower the people to accelerate business success

About You

You should have:

  • A university degree with a strong technical background, particularly in Information Technology/Computer Science or related Network Security
  • 10+ years of hands-on experience with Cisco network hardware, including routers, switches, and security appliances
  • A holder of a CCIE certification or equivalent is preferred
  • Design, install and configure Cisco ACI spine and Leaf switches in the data centre. Design multisite ACI fabric, including BD, EPG, Switch profiles, and VMM integration
  • Highly self-motivated and directed
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively prioritise and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment. Willingness to coach and train colleagues
  • Vendor Management Change Management
  • Good command of Chinese and English (in both spoken and written)
  • Experience with Huawei router and switch is an advantage
  • Knowledge of SD-WAN technologies for large-scale enterprise deployments. Experience with Cisco ACI data centre platform, including policy development and administration
  • Knowledge and experience with networking protocols and configurations, including OSPF, BGP, HSRP, multicast, SIP, QoS, VLANs, and MPLS
  • 2-3 yrs of experience or good understanding of Firewalls (e.g. Paolo Alto, Fortinet, CheckPoint)
  • 2-3 yrs of experience or good understanding of Wireless Technologies (e.g. Aurba MC, Cisco ISE)
  • Experience with the design of physical networks, including fibre and copper cabling
  • Knowledge and experience with network management systems
