Senior Technical Manager, Platform Engineering

We design, build, and operate the technology that powers the Club. Our primary focus is on delivering the service that supports our hospitality, racing and wagering operations, to ensure that our customers and members enjoy exceptional experiences. We also deliver the changes necessary to drive business growth through new products and services. And, we are committed to safeguarding the Club by protecting it from external threats, providing a secure and resilient technological environment.

The Department

The IT Infrastructure and Platform Operations Department is responsible for the design, implementation, and management of the infrastructure that supports the Club’s IT systems, and leads the Service Management capabilities that ensure the smooth running of these systems.

This department ensures the efficient and effective operation of technological resources to support business objectives. Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing and operating processes and controls to ensure IT service availability, performance, and resilience align with business needs.
  • Managing the 24x7 IT Operations Centre.
  • Overseeing the Club’s use of the public cloud.
  • Managing the lifecycle of IT infrastructure equipment and on-premises technology (e.g., data centres and retail offices).
  • Providing roadmaps, standards, and capabilities to keep the IT infrastructure current, secure (patched against CVEs), and robust.
  • Provide the Club’s colleague collaboration technology suite, including desktop and laptop computers, mobile devices, collaboration tools, carrier contracts, and associated support functions.

The Job

You will:

  • Build, lead, and mentor an Infrastructure automation team specialising in IaC development and solutions
  • Oversee the design, development, and implementation of IaC solutions for provisioning, configuring, and managing infrastructure
  • Standardise reusable IaC modules and templates to enable consistent and scalable deployment
  • Ensure platforms are scalable, secure, and aligned with DevOps and IaC principles
  • Manage and support platforms such as Ansible, Terraform, and Morpheus
  • Drive the adoption of automation platforms across the organisation to reduce manual dependencies and improve efficiency
  • Continuously assess and refine tools, workflows, and team practices to improve efficiency and quality
  • Encourage team members to adopt emerging technologies and contribute to open-source or community efforts
  • Act as the primary point of contact for leadership regarding automation strategies, progress, and team performance
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as DevOps, cloud engineering, and security to align automation initiatives with organisational needs
  • Facilitate communication between the team and stakeholders to ensure alignment on priorities and expectations
  • Collaborate with a Scrum Master to facilitate sprint planning, daily stand-ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives
  • Ensure the team follows Agile principles, delivering incremental improvements and prioritising backlog items in alignment with organisational goals
  • Continuously refine the product backlog in collaboration with stakeholders to align with evolving priorities
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in Agile, Scrum, automation platforms, and IaC technologies
  • Participate and contribute positively to create a diverse and inclusive culture with trust and respect.  Play an active role to support cross-team/division/department efforts and model collaborative behaviours

About You

You should have:

  • University degree in computer science, engineering or related subjects
  • At least 10 Years of experience in IT Operations and/or IT security functions
  • 8+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, with at least 3+ years in a leadership or managerial role
  • Proven experience in developing and managing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using tools like Terraform and Ansible
  • Hands-on knowledge of automation platforms such as Ansible, CMP tools (e.g., Morpheus), and provisioning platforms
  • Experience managing hybrid cloud environments (AWS, Azure) and on-premises infrastructure
  • Strong expertise in Scrum and Agile methodologies, with hands-on experience managing Scrum teams
  • Excellent knowledge of creating scripting or software languages, such as YAML and PowerShell
  • Relevant certifications such as Red Hat Certified Specialist in Ansible Automation, Terraform Associate, or AWS/Azure certifications
  • Strong foundational knowledge of core infrastructure technologies, such as networking, systems (Linux/Windows), storage & backup, database services, and end-user computing
  • Proficiency in Jira for task management, sprint planning, and reporting
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to manage cross-functional teams and stakeholders effectively
  • Proficient in scripting languages for automation tasks
  • Self-driven & motivated, tenacious problem solver will own issues until full resolution
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent judgement, and possess a passion for continuous learning
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
  • Strong verbal & written communication skills
