Founded in 1884, The Hong Kong Jockey Club (“the Club”) is a world-class racing club that acts continuously for the betterment of our society. The Club has a unique integrated business model, comprising racing and racecourse entertainment, a membership club, responsible sports wagering and lottery, and charities and community contribution. The Department
The Mainland China IT Department is responsible for building a new IT team within Chinese Mainland, designing and developing modern technology to offer an innovative and unmatched customer experience while staying close to operations, including our Conghua Racecourse, Club Houses, IT infrastructure, and new AI and digital developments. It is also responsible for formulating a strategy to partner with top-tier service providers in China and setting up an Innovation Center in China.
The Job
- Maintain a close and highly collaborative relationship with the club’s business users and technology leaders to define and maintain the China Mainland Reference Architecture. Understand future requirements in order to ensure architecture solutions are future-proofed and in line with the defined enterprise architecture vision
- Contribute to and support business on new initiatives that bring value to the Club. Monitor the China Mainland Beijing Club House and Chong Hua Racecourse market to drive improvements. Then, present as required to all levels of management to delineate the business implications of technical initiatives and secure their buy-in
- Work closely with delivery teams to ensure the requirements are technically feasible, the solution architecture is properly understood to the detailed level required for implementation, and design testability. As an application architect, ensure all developed solutions follow the HKJC Club PDLC (e.g. ITRA, ADB, TSG) and get all the required endorsements for the compliance of the PDLC
- Ensure architecture solutions take into consideration performance/load metrics, as well as other non-functional requirements per HKJC standards. Conduct Proofs-of-Concept as required
- Assist in production issues and resulting design enhancements
- Provide architecture advice and assistance to all levels of engineers and managers. Educate staff members through training and individual support. Promote knowledge sharing of best practices on technology adoption/usage across architecture and development teams
- Conduct regular and ad-hoc standards review on every architecture component for different enterprise systems, including peer review of other Domain Reference Architectures, Design Patterns and proposed solutions. Drive and promote architectural standards and policies
- Participate and contribute positively to create a diverse and inclusive culture with trust and respect. Play an active role to support cross-team/division/department efforts and model collaborative behaviours
About You
- University degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field. A postgraduate qualification is a definite plus
- Certification in TOGAF, Zachman, Gartner EAM, or related is a plus
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in software development, system integration, and support
- 1+ years of experience in information systems analysis/design, and architecture development; consultancy experience in architecture engagements is a distinct advantage
- Experience in the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies
- Experience in vendor management and building strong working relationships
- A solid understanding of China Mainland Technologies, with focus on the Cloud (e.g. Tencent or AliCloud), AI Model (e.g. using DeepSeek or AWS Bedrock or others), design in Event Booking (e.g. Carpark, Retail or Food Ordering) Systems to enrich the customer experience via a mobile device (e.g. WeChat Mini Program)
- Experienced with Event-driven Architecture
- Experienced in solution design of large-scale, heterogeneous distributed systems
- Hands-on experience in business analysis/architecture of AI/booking/ordering/gamification processing systems with high scalability, throughput, fault tolerance, recoverability and maintainability
- Have experience in preparing Architecture Artefacts, including context diagrams, use case diagrams, flow diagrams, sequence diagrams, deployment diagrams and network diagrams
- Have experience in performing model design in Entity-Relationship, Object-oriented and NoSQL
- Familiar with the iterative development processes leveraging DevOps principles at scale to Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Delivery (CD) with tools including Bit Bucket, Jenkins, Urban Code, Jira and associated add-ons and tools
- Understanding EA concepts and their implementation implications within an organisation, depending on the maturity of the organisation along the EA roadmap
- Demonstrated experience in complex solution design and in developing standardised reusable patterns
- Superior written and verbal communication skills in presenting technical concepts and their business implications to all levels of management and securing their buy-in
- Knowledgeable in the latest technologies and trends
- Able to influence others and demonstrate peer leadership skills
- Ability to apply structured thinking to analyse and reduce complex problems to their essence
- Ability to participate in architecture analysis, modelling, and design, ensuring alignment with business and Architecture strategy. This includes ownership of the architectural artefacts, controlling architectural integrity, and managing critical architectural trade-offs
- Consultancy experience in architecture development and information systems analysis/design
- Ability to translate core business requirements into a feasible technical solution amid constraints
- Ability to work effectively with people in other departments and/or outside of the enterprise
- Formal Architecture certification & understanding of its practical implications are desired
