Technical Manager, Systems

What do we do?
We design, build, and operate the technology that powers the Club. Our primary focus is on delivering the service that supports our hospitality, racing and wagering operations, to ensure that our customers and members enjoy exceptional experiences.
We also deliver the changes necessary to drive business growth through new products and services. And, we are committed to safeguarding the Club by protecting it from external threats, providing a secure and resilient technological environment.
The Department
The IT Infrastructure and Platform Operations Department is responsible for the design, implementation, and management of the infrastructure that supports the Club’s IT systems, and leads the Service Management capabilities that ensure the smooth running of these systems.
This department ensures that all technological resources operate efficiently and effectively to support business objectives. Key responsibilities include:
- Design and operate processes and controls that ensure IT service availability, performance, and resilience are aligned with business expectations.
- Manage the 24x7 IT Operations Centre.
- Manage the Club’s exploitation of the public cloud.
- Manage the complete lifecycle of the Club’s IT network and the technology within our data centres.
- Provide the roadmaps, standards, and capabilities that enable our IT infrastructure to remain current (eligible for vendor support) and secure (patched and remediated against CVEs).
- Provide the Club’s colleague collaboration technology suite, including desktop and laptop computers, mobile devices, collaboration tools, carrier contracts, and associated support functions.
The Job
You will:
- Windows OS Installation & Configuration Proficient in deploying and configuring Windows Server and Windows client operating systems across physical and virtual environments
- Active Directory & Group Policy Management Skilled in managing user accounts, permissions, and security policies using AD and GPOs
- System Hardening & Security Compliance: Ability to implement security baselines, patch management, antivirus solutions, and endpoint protection in line with organisational standards
- Standard Operating Environment (SOE) Setup Experience in designing and maintaining standardised system images and deployment procedures
- Monitoring & Performance Tuning Familiarity with tools like Windows Event Viewer, Performance Monitor, and third-party monitoring platforms to ensure system health and uptime
- Backup & Recovery Procedures Knowledge of backup solutions (e.g., Veeam, Windows Backup) and disaster recovery planning
- Troubleshooting & Incident Response Strong diagnostic skills to resolve hardware, software, and network-related issues efficiently
- Automation & Scripting Competency in PowerShell scripting for task automation, reporting, and system configuration
- Documentation & Standards Compliance Ability to create and maintain technical documentation, installation guides, and support procedures aligned with ITIL or internal standards
- Change Management Familiar with structured change control processes to ensure safe and auditable system modifications
- Asset & License Management Experience in tracking hardware/software inventory and ensuring license compliance
- Routine Maintenance & Support Capable of performing scheduled updates, health checks, and user support in a timely and professional manner
- Customer Service Orientation: Responsive and empathetic approach to end-user support, with clear communication and follow-through
- Team Collaboration Works effectively with cross-functional teams, including network, security, and application support
- Problem Solving & Initiative Proactive in identifying system inefficiencies and proposing improvements
- Adaptability & Learning Agility: Keeps up with evolving technologies and integrates best practices into daily operations
About You
You should have:
- Bachelor’s Degree in a Relevant Field Typically in Information Technology, Computer Science, Systems Engineering or a closely related discipline
- Preferred Certifications (not mandatory but highly valued)
- Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate
- ITIL Foundation Certification (for process-oriented environments)
- PowerShell or Automation-related training (for scripting and task automation)
- Alternative Pathways: Candidates with proven hands-on experience in Windows system administration may also be considered
- 3–5 years of hands-on experience in Windows system administration, support, and maintenance in a mid-to-large scale enterprise environment
- Proven track record in Windows Server (2016/2019/2022) deployment, configuration, and troubleshooting
- Experience managing Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy Objects in a production setting
- Familiarity with virtualisation platforms such as VMware, Hyper-V, or Azure Virtual Desktop
- Routine experience with patch management, system updates, and security hardening practices
- Experience implementing and maintaining standard operating environments (SOE) and automated deployment tools (e.g., Bigfix, Ansible)
- Exposure to PowerShell scripting for automation, reporting, and system configuration
- Experience supporting enterprise backup solutions and participating in disaster recovery planning
- Familiarity with ITIL-based support processes, including incident, problem, and change management
- Worked in cross-functional teams, collaborating with network, security, and application support teams
- Experience in documenting procedures, creating knowledge base articles, and training junior staff or users
- Strong problem-solving mindset with a proactive approach to system optimization
- Good communication skills for cross-team collaboration and user support
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities under pressure
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to documentation and process compliance
- Enthusiastic about continuous learning and staying current with emerging technologies
