“A Confluence of Passions: Where Athletic Discipline Meets Charitable Impact.”

Nathan Ho – Management Trainee, Charities and Community (2023 Intake)

“My journey is a purposeful evolution from receiving support to striving to deliver it at a systemic level, nurtured by a curated trainee experience that blends vision with action.

A defining milestone was my contribution to two Philanthropy for Better Cities (PBC) Forums. These opportunities broadened my horizon, exposing me to global philanthropic practices and connecting me with pioneering leaders. Immersed in this confluence of ideas and compassion, I gained an invaluable network and a strategic lens that continues to guide my work.

These global insights were anchored by hands-on experience in sports development and poverty alleviation, where I witnessed the tangible impact of strategic philanthropy. I learned the fundamentals of program design, stakeholder engagement, and measuring social return. My initial role within the Charities Trust deepened this perspective, grounding grant-making in rigorous community needs analysis and introducing me to mentors whose guidance remains instrumental.

A structured rotation across the Strategy and Business Planning Office and the Public Affairs team provided a dual vantage point: aligning long-term institutional vision with meaningful public engagement. This experience underscored the symbiotic relationship between strategic planning and effective communication.

Today, my journey continues within the Sustainability team, where I help drive Hong Kong’s transition toward climate resilience. This forward-looking role allows me to support the not-for-profit sector in reducing its carbon footprint and adapting to climate change. It is a privilege to apply a strategic lens to create tangible, lasting environmental impact—ensuring that philanthropy not only responds to today’s needs but also safeguards tomorrow’s future.”
